Effects in Mope.io can come from Abilities, terrain or food. Below is a list of all current effects implemented in-game. For information on abilities, see Special Abilities or Passive Abilities.
Stun
Stunned animals move much slower and are rendered incapable of using their abilities for the entire duration of the effect. A couple of yellow circles will spin on the animal to show that they're stunned. Black Dragons and King Dragons will not slow down when stunned, however.
Burn
- Main article: Fire
Burning animals get damaged periodically throughout the effect’s duration, also losing water three times faster than usual. To stop the effect prematurely, the player should navigate their animal into any water spots or a Hiding Hole/Whirlpool. Burning animals also stop burning when frozen, too.
Freeze
Frozen animals move much slower (even slower than the effects of Stun) and are rendered incapable of using their abilities for the entire duration of the effect.
Biome Change
- Main article: Biomes
Most animals are affected by this effect when they exit their respective biomes. It can either cause burning (Arctic --> everywhere else and Land/Ocean --> Desert) or freezing (Desert --> out-of-Desert into Water/Anywhere not from Arctic --> Arctic). It always happens in 15-second intervals and never stops until the affected animal re-enters their correct biome.
Heal
Healing Stone
- Main article: Healing stone
When an animal touches a healing stone, they will get this effect. The affected animal would slowly gain water, health, and even a bit of XP.
Aloevera
- Main article: Aloevera
The healing effect will be activated when an animal consumes an aloevera leaf or aloevera plant. By consuming an aloevera leaf, an animal would regain health a bit faster for 6 seconds. By consuming an entire Aloevera plant, an animal would regain health at a frightening rate for the entirety of 30 seconds, essentially making them invulnerable for the entire duration of the effect.
Poison
- Main article: Poison
Poisoned animals slowly lose hitpoints and have their movement speed slightly reduced for the entire duration of the effect. A player can get this effect by biting or being bitten by poisonous/poisoned animals, being touched by Hedgehog spines, or by going into the poison lake. The affected animal would also turn a nasty shade of green. Poisoned animalsare rendered incapable of using their abilities for the entire duration of the effect.
Bleed
Bleeding animals lose hitpoints periodically and turn red. Animals can only be afflicted with this effect by being bitten by a T-Rex or Shark, or by being spiked by a Pufferfish, or if a Markhor throws them into the air or by being impaled by the spear of the Bigfoot. The bleeding from a T-Rex’s or Shark’s ability causes temporary immobilization. The Markhor and Bigfoot’s bleeding doesn't affect movement at all, although bleeding from the Bigfoot's spear doesn't allow affected animals to go into hiding holes.
Slime
Animal physics become slippery as if on ice. Affected animals will also gain slightly adjusted momentum. Slime can also be afflicted by attacking a Frog or by entering a Camel's very brief Slime puddle after its Spit.
Stung
Animals get this effect after being stung by a bee. Affected animals take slight damage and are rendered incapable of using their abilities, also having massively reduced movement speeds. Bears and Polar Bears are immune to the latter two effects.
Chili (Speed)
- Main article: Pepper
Affected animals become faster for a short period of time. Animals can be afflicted by this effect by eating a Chili Pepper. Green peppers give a longer effect.
Animals over tier 16 won't gain this boost from peppers.
Sweat
Sweating animals lose water much faster than usual, also spawning “sweat” (visible water droplets) everywhere they go. “Sweat” can be drank by all animals animals other than the sweating animal, which would be rendered incapable of drinking its own “Sweat” until the effect ends. Only Venus Flytraps, Komodo Dragons and Blackwidow Spiders are able to cause Sweating.
Snow Statue
- Main article: Aqua Yeti
Only Aqua Yetis and Snowgirls can cause this effect. Animals made into Snow Statues will be frozen into place and rendered incapable of using their abilities, also taking damage periodically. Black Dragons and King Dragons, however, are immune to the former effect.
Shiver
- Main article: Giant Scorpion
Affected animals lose health and shake around uncontrollably, also being rendered incapable of boosting or using their ability. The only way to reduce its severity is by going into a hiding hole. This effect is so far only capable of being inflicted by the Giant Scorpion when it stings or bites an animal.
Invincibility
This effect activates when an animal upgrades, spawns, or exits a 1v1 arena after winning, causing affected animals to be unable to harm others or be harmed, also rendering them incapable of using their abilities. Animals frozen, burned, poisoned, stunned or slimed during this effect would take damage only after the effect ends.
In the #GoldenAge update, the duration of invincibility from upgrading was increased by a couple of seconds, making the duration the same as spawning/respawning.
Stink
The Stink effect is produced via the Pig's ability of farting. Previously, it only affected animals from tier 1 to tier 11, but now also effective on tier 12 animals.
XP Enrichment
A Coconut giving 1.31k XP to a Boa Constrictor. Usually, it would give 875 XP.
The XP Enrichment is a once-existing effect can only be applied to Trees, and only when a Healing Stone is touching them. When a Healing Stone touches a Tree, the fruits spawned by the Tree would give 1.5x more XP, thus making Trees better sources of XP. However, the effect would only be applied to newly spawned fruits and not pre-existing ones.
This effect was subsequently removed with the major Tree rework. However, it is interesting to note that KoA confirmed that he will re-add this feature some time ago in one of his community posts.
Trivia
- If a “slimed” animal attempts boosting, they will be flung uncontrollably in a random direction, similar to when an animal with a bad grip on ice attempts boosting on it.
- The Healing Stone used to have a glitch that made AFK-levelling possible. By pushing a Healing Stone until it touches a Hiding Hole/Whirlpool, the Hiding Hole/Whirlpool would give infinite Water, Health, and XP to all animals that hide in it, allowing players to go AFK and still have their animals levelled up. Unfortunately, the glitch has long since been fixed and this is no longer possible.
