A Mole next to a Mouse, from both the Mole's view (left) and the Mouse's view (right). Note how the player animal themselves is always the neutral color.
Animals and food have an outline are used to indicate their place on the food chain in Mope.io. As a general rule, light green-outlined entities are edible, dark green-outlined entities are inedible, and red-outlined entities are predators.
Overview
Animal outlines
A guide on animal outlines
- Each animal has its own outline.
- Animals with a light green outline are prey, and thus are edible. The player is able to bite them with the front half of their animal to inflict damage, and special abilities are generally most damaging against prey. If a prey animal's health drops to zero due to a bite or most abilities, they will be eaten and reward the player with most of their XP. Color: #49e05d
- If an animal has a red outline, it is a predator to the player. Predators are able to bite and eat the player. Special abilities against predators are generally less effective than on prey, with effectiveness decreasing the bigger the gap in tiers. Abilities may not affect predators above a certain tier.
- Animals that are too low, equivalent, or too high on the food chain are considered "peaceful" or neutral. Their outline is a darker color of the biome they are in. These animals are unable to damage the player either by predation or tail-biting (nor is the player able to damage them), but can still physically body block the player in most cases. Special abilities may still affect neutral animals to a lesser degree, such as through stun. Very few abilities can deal damage to either party.
- The outline is dark green for the Land and Forest, dark blue for the Ocean, white for the Arctic, dark yellow for the Desert, and dark orange for the Volcano.
- The player's animal on their screen uses this outline color except in 1v1s.
- Rares with stronger abilities than their normal counterpart are usually able to still damage or manipulate equivalents. For example, the Big Goat is able to launch and inflict bleeding damage on other tier 12 animals, including its common variant, the Markhor.
- Animals from tier 15 to tier 17 are an exception: they are able to tail-bite and damage animals of the same tier with their abilities.
- In a 1v1, one opponent uses a cyan outline and the other a yellow outline. This is purely cosmetic to differentiate players.
Food outlines
Food also has outlines. Edible food will have a lime green outline, and non-edible food will have a neutral outline.
A few exceptions exist.
- The carcass does not have an outline.
- The cactus has no outline for animals that cannot eat it, but it has an edible outline for those that can (tier 12 and above).
- Healing stones always appear with a neutral outline, but can be bitten regardless of tier.

This Mole has a green outline, and can be eaten.
This Cobra has a red outline, and can eat the player. However, the player can tail-bite the green area on the opposite side of its head.
This Pig has a dark green outline (in the Land biome). Therefore it can neither hurt the player, nor can the player harm it.
Tier 15 and above are an exception to the dark outline rule; they are able to tail-bite and inflict damage to one another.
Two animals in a 1v1. One opponent always has a yellow outline, and the other a blue outline.

Trivia
- The Volcano neutral color can sometimes be confused with the predation color, due to it being a dark red.
- Edible prey were previously outlined yellow. Yellow outlining has only been reused since then to represent yellow team in the the now-twice-removed Team Mode and the opponent in a 1v1.
- While all foods have an inedible asset, in the case of foods any animal can eat, these are only possible to see in-game through spectate or on the home screen.
