A guide on how the animal food chain works.

Animals play the most important role in Mope.io, as they are what the game is about. Animals can be classified by the biome that they originate from: Ocean, Land, Desert, Arctic, Forest and the Volcano. See individual sections for more in-depth explanations of the capabilities of animals in-game.

Overview

As of now, there are 91 common animals, 46 rare animals, and 7 AI Animals (144 in total). They form a food chain, where stronger, higher-tier animals (outlined red) are able to eat those below them (outlined lime green). Animals lower in the food chain can kill or damage animals higher in the food chain through the use of abilities or biting tails. Land animals above Rabbit, Arctic animals above Arctic Hare, Ocean animals above Crab, Birds above Pigeon, and Desert animals above the Desert Chipmunk all have a tail, which can be bitten by lower-level animals. Animals cannot eat or damage other animals in the same tier (except for tiers 15 or higher through tail-biting); most animals also cannot eat animals more than about 5-8 tiers lower (depending on the animal); correspondingly, those animals cannot tail-bite animals in the higher tier.

Features

XP

Main article: XP

Each animal has an XP bar, which indicates its progress; how much food it has eaten, and how much more it will have to eat in order to upgrade to the next tier. The higher an animal is in the food chain, the more XP it needs to gain to upgrade to the next.

Health

Main article: Health

Animals also have health, which will be lost if an animal is bitten by a predator, their tail is bitten by prey, or from environmental causes. The amount of health an animal has will appear as a green bar above the animal. Health naturally regenerate overtime; doing so even faster through the use of Healing Stones or Aloevera. Certain types of food such as Aloevera, seashells and Mushroom Bushes have health bars too. Unlike for animals, the food’s health bar will not regenerate at all. When animal loses health, its size will decrease slightly, even if it has a lot of XP.

Abilities

Further information: Special Abilities and Passive Abilities

Most animals have special abilities that can be used to escape or attack predators, capture prey, or collect food. They can be used offensively or defensively, but normally will have a certain re-charge time, and can be activated by pressing W or right click. There are also some animals with passive abilities; extra traits that are useful in surviving and upgrading faster. As the name implies, passive abilities are not offensive in nature, and can only affect the animal that has them.

Different types

See also: Biomes

Animals have different attributes depending on the biome they spawn in, and are usually strongest in that biome. Certain animals are able to survive outside of their given biome, but normally it comes with a catch, such as receiving damage over time or draining water faster. Overall, most animals will have the best chance of surviving in whatever biome they spawn in. It should be noted that animals will be counted as "Land" or "Ocean" dwelling if that is the biome they will spawn in upon upgrading and selecting them.

Land animals

Main article: Land

Land animals can both live on land and in water. However, they are particularly slow in water, with the exception of a few, such as Crocodiles, Hippos, and Dragons. When a land or ocean animal enters the arctic, they will freeze periodically, taking damage and being stunned for a moment. The same applies with the Desert, except animals will be burned in there, with no stunning. Non-arctic/desert animals also lose water more quickly in the arctic. There are currently no non-Arctic animals that don't freeze in the Arctic, except the Tiger. However, there are a couple of Land animals that can survive in the desert without burning (e.g. Ostrich, Lion).

Forest animals

Main article: Forest

The Forest, also known as Timberland, was technically a sub-biome within Land; all entities became smaller, and there were a lot more trees present (due to this there were no hills either). While any Land animal could spawn in this biome by pure chance, the Forest had an incomplete food chain. The Tarsier, Chukar, Flying Lizard, Kakapo, Swinehoe, Raven, Turkey, White Giraffe and Bigfoot were considered to be Forest animals: most of them had a 100% chance of spawning in the Forest. These animals had the same characteristics as other Land animals, with the main differences being that most of them could climb on trees and were immune to biome debuffs.

Lava animals

Main article: Volcano

Lava animals, also called Volcanic animals, belong to the Volcano – a sub-biome located in the center of the Land biome, which is also in the center of the entire map. Animals that belong to this area are characterized by their passive ability of being able to survive on lava, and feeding on it as their life source instead of water. Moreover, when pressing S as these animals, they will spit lava instead of water. Like the Forest, there is not a complete chain of Lava animals: the rare Lava Toucan, Phoenix, Land Monster, Black Dragon, and King Dragon are the only Lava animals. While Dragons and Giant Scorpions happen to be able to survive on lava, they live on water and are thus not categorized as Lava animals.

Ocean animals

A and Sea Monster

Main article: Ocean

Ocean animals normally dwell in the oceans, (located on both sides of the Map, both connected by two rivers), but can also survive in lakes and water spots. On land, their "Water" runs out very quickly (with the exception of a few, which are Pelican, Turtle, Crab, Flamingo, and King Crab) and can easily dehydrate to death. As such, they are also sometimes referred to as aquatic animals. While the diving feature is not only exclusive to Ocean animals, these animals are set apart by their ability to dive for extended periods of time compared to dry land-dwelling counterparts.

Arctic animals

Main article: Arctic

Arctic animals can survive in the colder Arctic biome, and most of them will periodically burn over time when being in any biome other than the Arctic. Most arctic animals have the passive ability of grip on ice. Other animals that do not have the aforementioned passive ability may also have the ability of sliding on ice. Non-Arctic animals that are in the Arctic will freeze periodically, be slippery on ice, and experience slight freezing when moving on Arctic water sources, while Arctic animals are immune to these effects.

Desert animals

Main article: Desert

Desert animals are essentially the warm counterparts of Arctic animals. They do not lose water within the Desert as fast as non-Desert animals do. Unlike Arctic animals, all Desert animals can survive in the Land biome without experiencing debuff. However, instead they will freeze overtime in intervals when standing on a water source that isn't in the Desert, as well as when in the Arctic. All Lava animals can survive in the Desert without burning, and the Giant Scorpion can survive on and move around in lava without dying (as long as the Giant Scorpion can get water when needed).

AI Animals

AI Animals are animals that have set behaviors, and cannot be used by human players. The behavior of AI animals varies: most AI creatures are not threatening, with the exception of the Honey Bee and Goose, both of which are hostile.
