Bars are meters showing the quantity of a source that is essential for all animals in Mope.io. With the exception of the health bar, all are placed on the bottom of the screen. There are 3 bars all animals have: the health bar, XP bar, and sustenance bar, which is usually water. Most animals additionally have an air bar. Bars have been in the game since its inception on October 2, 2016.
Types of bars
Health bar
The health bar
- Main article: Health
The health bar is by far the most important bar; if it depletes to zero, the animal will die. Health bars are invisible when at full health, but the animal is damaged, it will appear above the wounded animal. Special Abilities, effects, predators, tail-bites, debuff, and thirst are all common methods of receiving damage. Damaged animals shrink in size in proportion to the amount of health they have left and slowly heal and grow back to normal size. The Black Dragon, King Dragon, and if its spawned family dies, the White Giraffe, do not naturally heal.
XP bar
The XP bar
- Main article: XP
The XP bar, or the experience bar is a yellow bar beneath the sustenance bar stretching across the screen. The XP bar simply tracks the current XP the player has and the amount needed for the next tier, filling up as the player gets XP and decreasing as the player loses it. Upgrading drops the bar back down.
Sustenance bar
All animals have a bar to maintain with some sort of sustenance. If this bar drops to around a fifth, "LOW" is indicated on the bar and its text turns red. A small colored dot corresponding to their sustenance bar color appears next to the animal's name to advertise their weakened state to other players. If not maintained, the animal will lose the ability to boost, and if fully depleted, the animal takes damage in one second increments until it is replenished or the animal dies. Low sustenance may additionally cancel out, prevent the usage of, or weaken some special abilities.
Boosting and using some special abilities (e.g flight) will drain the bar in larger decrements. Being in the incorrect biome, the duration of some abilities, and under certain effects like burning will increase the rate of drain. Many rare variants of animals drain faster than their common counterpart.
Healing stones fill up the animal's sustenance bar at a moderate pace while touched. Bars drain slower in hiding holes, caves, and igloos. Eating an animal refills a decent amount of the bar.
Water bar
The Water bar
- Main article: Water
The water bar is the sustenance bar most animals in the game have, normally decreasing in small decrements every couple seconds. It is maintained primarily by drinking water pods found around water spots, but may be gained by eating certain foods that additionally give water or slowly when physically on top of a water source. Physical water sources include water spots, lakes, rivers, oases, and the Ocean. Mud and beaches gives water when stood on at a slower rate. Common water-giving foods include pears, raspberries, watermelons, and cacti.
Animals using a water bar can spit out water by pressing S, using a small amount of the bar.
Lava bar
- Main article: Lava
The lava bar is only used by Volcanic animals; the Lava Toucan, Phoenix, Land Monster, Black Dragon, and King Dragon. These animals have a fixed radius centered on the Volcano where they passively gain lava in slow increments (and therefore without boosting or using abilities, will never thirst to death in the radius). When outside this radius, they drain lava in a similar fashion to the water bar. Lava will not drain in the Desert. Being at the Volcano and on lava (except in the Desert) will refill the lava bar at a decent pace.
The Lava Toucan, Phoenix, and Land Monster are capable of spitting fireballs with S, draining a fifth of their lava bar for the former two and a ninth for the Land Monster. All lava drinkers' abilities use lava and won't function if low on it.
Energy bar
- Main article: Energy
Energy is an exclusive bar to the Pterodactyl. Energy is gained passively above a certain threshold, but is filled more rapidly and primarily by eating food. Different food, especially fruit, give different amounts of energy. If below a certain threshold of energy, it drains. Flying drains energy faster, and holding an animal will drain it even faster. Being in a hiding hole causes it to drain regardless of threshold.
The now-removed Bird Monster used an energy bar with similar logic, except water could also refill it and it drained over time like a normal water bar.
Air bar
The Air bar
The air bar is a separate bar for all animals except for the Black Dragon and King Dragon, who lack the ability to dive, and the Sea Monster, who has a more unique mechanic. When diving in water, mud, or lava, the air bar will temporarily replace the sustenance bar (although it still exists and works normally during the dive), starting at full and draining over time as the player is diving. When it reaches zero, the player will automatically emerge. If they are under terrain they can't climb when this happens, they will be pushed beside it. Exact dive times depends on animal: Ocean animals generally have longer dive times, with the highest definite time being a tie between the Kraken and King Crab, at 90 seconds. Non-Ocean animals with notable dive times include the Crocodile, Hippo, Cassowary, Dragon, and T-REX.
The Mole and Meerkat's special abilities allow them to dig, as well as dive like normal. Digging still uses the air bar, and functions very similarly to diving, but will switch to diving if they enter water.
Sea Monster air bar
- Main article: Sea Monster § Technical
The Sea Monster's air bar is its sustenance bar. Being on the surface of water sources will passively gain the Sea Monster air, while using its special ability or being on dry-land will cause it to lose air. Like a normal air bar, it drains while diving, but unlike a typical air bar, the Sea Monster will suffocate and take damage if it runs out.

Trivia
- For two days after the game's release, all animals had a hunger bar in addition to a water bar; the hunger bar required animals to eat to maintain it. The hunger bar was removed soon after.
- The Pterodactyl's energy mechanic works similarly to the hunger bar, except energy replaces water as its form of sustenance.
Glitches
- In late May 2025, multiple players reported advertisement popups appearing at the bottom of the screen while playing Mope.io; blocking the view of the sustenance and XP bars. It was initially thought that 3AM Experiences purposely implemented these in-game ads for revenue, but PashaGames confirmed that it was an unintentional bug caused by 3AM's ad provider.[1] The glitch was fixed at some point before late 2025.
