Meat is a food item in Mope.io that appears when an animal dies from natural (non-player) causes, e.g. lack of sustenance, or loss of health from a hostile terrain such as lava. Meat appears in three different sizes: small, medium and large. It was released on April 9, 2017.
Technical
Unlike most food sources in Mope.io, meat does not spawn naturally in any specific biome; it appears from animals and some specific abilities and foods.
Causes
Meat is created from the following circumstances:
- When an animal dies (i.e. its health is reduced to zero), if it is not killed directly by another animal, it will reform into multiple pieces of meat. This health loss can be caused by any of the following factors:
- Lack of sustenance (water, lava, or energy), and
- Hostile terrain (e.g. lava or biome debuff) or food (only cacti right now) that damages the player's health.
- Disconnecting from the server (the player's animal will become meat)
- The "Jaw Bite" special ability, which drags prey around and causes meat to "fall off" their body. Only the Shark and T-Rex have this special ability.
- When eating a carcass, meat will appear. The carcass has a health bar which requires three hits for animals below tier 16 to eat.
- Certain special abilities, such as the Stingray's "Electric Shock", will not grant the kill to the player if used on an animal with low health. Instead, that animal will become meat.
- In the now-discontinued Zombie Infection game mode, zombies would drop rotten meat that infected players who consumed it. The zombified meat has a distinct appearance which can be seen in the asset gallery.
Sizes
There are three different sizes of meat which can appear: small, medium, and large.
- Small meat appears when an animal below tier 6 dies: every single animal from tier 1 to tier 17 (Mouse to Black Dragon) can eat small meat.
- It is also created when the Shark uses its "Jaw Bite" ability on another animal.
- Medium meat appears when any animal above tier 6 dies: only animals from tier 6 to tier 17 can eat medium meat.
- It is also created when the T-Rex uses its "Jaw Bite" ability on another animal.
- Large meat appears when any animal above tier 9 dies (medium meat will appear alongside large meat): only animals from tier 12 to tier 17 (Eagle to Black Dragon) can eat large meat.
- Different meat sizes provide different XP, depending on tier. Small meat only provides 100-600 XP; medium meat provides 1K to 5K XP; large meat can provide between 60K to 200K XP.
- The more XP an animal has when it dies, the more meat is produced.
Appearance
Meat in Mope.io appears as red flesh the shape of a T-bone steak.
As stated above, meat in-game appears in three different sizes. Small meat is roughly the size of plankton and berries; medium meat is around the size of a Fox; large meat is the biggest, being of similar size to a bush.
Strategy

As one of the best foods in mope.io, if you find any meat lying there, EAT IT! (Unless you can't eat it. Also, DON'T do this when there's predators around) Meat gives a bunch of XP, especially large meat. A way to get meat is that you can wait prey out in Hiding holes until they die of thirst. However, that is very inefficient and meat give you less XP than eating it anyways, plus meat can be stolen. So the better way is to pretend to give out tailbites or act a.f.k. It's best to leave animals alone if they don't come out for long periods of time.
Meat is usually found in the Arctic, usually from Sea or Land biome animals that die there from freezing, so that biome is good for finding meat. The desert is also a top meat producer as fish or land animals often die there from water loss/heatstroke. So, the next time you play Mope.io, get supplied, and set off on a massive meat hunt!
Leave the prey alone if they are not coming out for a long time. However, the waiting them to die of thirst can be used if the prey is low on water. You can find often find meat in the arctic from ocean or land animals freezing to death. If you are a low-tiered ocean animal, try pushing snails out of the ocean so they drop meat, which level you up very fast.

History

Trivia
- Before it was added, instead of meat, mushrooms and water pods dropped when an animal died of natural causes.
- If a player tries to eat their own meat when a T-Rex or Shark drags them, a notification will appear: "You can't eat your own flesh!" If the player upgrades to the next tier, they will then be able to eat the meat.
